Proposed Residential Development – Widnes

E3P were commissioned to undertake a Noise Impact Assessment for a proposed residential development in Widnes. E3P undertook the following:

  • Extensive attended commercial sound measurements for all surrounding premises as well as road and rail traffic surveys.
  • Detailed break-in calculations for the proposed dwellings due to a continuous low frequency sound.
  • Creation of 3D noise model (see picture) to assess the impact of commercial and transportation sources of sound across the site.
  • Followed current British Standards to inform the assessments.

The assessment determined that measures were required for certain gardens and habitable rooms due to the impact of commercial and transportation sound.

This included for acoustic barriers and façade insulation.

Detailed break-in calculations, in accordance with BS 8233:2014 were undertaken to provide recommendations on glazing specification and requirements for background ventilators.

E3P worked closely with the Environmental Health Officer through the planning process of the Proposed Residential Development to ensure compliance with any requirements.

E3P followed all current guidance and ensured compliance with the criteria and advice given in BS 8233:2014 and BS 4142:2014.

The site was granted planning permission at planning committee in March 2020.
